Hello friends!
I tried a new project with my kids this week: Shrinky Dinks!
Have you ever tried these??
You can color (or letter 😉) on this special paper and then put it in the oven and it will shrink them down into cute little figurines (perfect for keychains!)
I definitely learned some lessons as we were doing these (and even got some tips from my Instagram followers on new things to try!)
So definitely save this post if you'll be trying these out so you can skip my mistakes!
We made one big mistake on our first try and that was - we didn’t realize our oven wasn’t hot enough! So I turned up the temp and left them in a bit longer.
We also folded the parchment paper over the Shrinky Dinks to keep them from curling up too (though apparently it’s normal for them to curl up during the “baking” process and flatten once they’ve shrunk). But I didn’t want to take any chances!!
Now that we have the hang of it, we’re all totally into it and my kids have made tons of them this week!
I even made one of my podcast name Committed to Create. Look how cute it came out!
Here's another tip: to make key rings like these, don't forget to punch a hole in them BEFORE you put them in the oven!
Is this something you’d try with your kids? Or on your own?
Watch it all come together here:
Here are all the products I used and links so you can try them yourself!
I ordered these Shrinky Dinks on Amazon. I chose the Crystal Clear Sheets but there are different styles like Bright White or Frosted White depending on the look you are going for.
I used this set of key rings - it comes in all different finishes but I picked the silver ones: classic!
These were the alcohol-based markers that we used. I love Tombow pens, I sell a bunch of them in my shop too!
We also used these colored Sharpies.
What else could I be making with these?? Let me know on Instagram - I'm learning so much there already from all of you Shrinky Dink experts out there!
